This app is designed for Moms-to-be and provides information created by the USDA and FDA that provides practical guidance on how to reduce your risk of foodborne illness.

When you become pregnant, your body naturally undergoes hormonal changes, some of which also change your immune system, making you more susceptible to contracting a foodborne illness. Additionally, as your unborn child has an under-developed immune system, you and your unborn child are at higher risk for foodborne illness.

The good news is that you can take special effort to select, store and prepare foods, to learn what to order when eating out/ordering in. Have pregnancy cravings or trying to stick to real food? Review the lists to see if a food is safe to eat.

The content provides practical tips to help you prevent contracting foodborne diseases. It includes information on how to read labels in the grocery store to ensure fresh food, how and where to store food and for how long after stored it is safe to consume. It includes tables/charts showing the safe temperature to cook foods, particularly meats and eggs, and includes safe temperatures to reheat leftovers.

Want to know more about foodborne illness? Topics include information on different types of foodborne illness and their symptoms. It also provides an action plan in case you develop symptoms or worry you may have eaten the wrong thing.

Eating out can be worrisome when you’re pregnant. This guide provides information on what to look for in a restaurant, questions to ask your server and “eat this not that” food choices. It even provides information on how to safely bring your leftovers home and store them.

From take out to BBQs, holidays and more, you’ll find helpful information and best practices to ensure you and your unborn baby’s safety.

Three helpful calculators are included: How long to keep foods quick lookup calculator with information on 600 different foods. Recipe adjustment calculator to increase or decrease any recipe if you are creating more or less servings than shown on the recipe or box. Finally, the kitchen conversion calculator is for when you’re cooking and need to convert between US measurements and metric for volume, weight and temperature.

The app provides helpful features such as a table of contents, robust search, ability to mark favorite pages and ability to print out and email a tape of calculations for recipe adjustments.

Importantly, this is an offline resource—so you can use it anywhere—even if you don’t have Wi-Fi or cellular service.
